The 2012 campaign marks the ninth presidential election Alter has covered. His previous books, The Promise: President Obama, Year One and The Defining Moment: FDR’s Hundred Days and the Triumph of Hope, were bestsellers. He lives in Montclair, New Jersey, with his wife and three children.
